A day at the spa...

Last Christmas my sweet husband gave me a gift certificate for all day at the spa. I tend to hoard these kind of gifts until they almost expire, always thinking in the back of my head "my day is coming." Finally yesterday I cashed it in. Can I just say heaven. It was the best day of my life counting when my children were born and two wedding days. Surpassed it all, my friends.
I arrived at ten where I immediately put in my lunch order CPK pear gorgonzola pizza.
I was then whisked away to the locker room where I changed into my nothin's and a robe.
My first treatment would be Hydrotherapy body polish. For those of you who haven't tried this, if a massage and a shower had a baby this would be their hot daughter. At first I was a little nervous laying buck naked on a table having a woman name Teri massage a walnut scrub all over my nude wet body, but I quickly let go of my inhibitions and enjoyed every second of it. Next was my actual massage where I  layed on a table in a dry room listening to Native American flute music while Teri sensually rubbed lavender scented oil all over me. I may have been strangely a little turned on. I felt like George on Seinfeld in the episode where "it" moved. Brad could learn a thing or two from Teri was the thought that kept running through my mind.
Britt a beautiful esthetician who for some reason I kept calling Tara met me in the "quiet room." Which if someone told me is what the celestrial kingdom looked like I would not be disappointed. We then headed down the candle lit hallway to yet another room for my hour long facial. No extractions or waxing today just pure relaxation. An amazing scalp massage, and organic products carefully lathered on my face.
I literally looked ten years younger afterwards. Lunch was then followed by a ninety minute pedi man, where Tara (or Britt rather) discussed her childhood, why she has relationship issues, her departure from the LDS church, and her parents divorce. Looking back this portion of the day was a little more therapeutic for her than me, but enjoyable all the same. Finally my hair was washed and styled for the first time in I don't know how long. I left my new home away from home feeling like a million bucks, (or at the very least a thousand.)

Just can't handle..

People who say "I know right?" or "Just sayin", skinny bitches, Justin Bieber, couples who ride tandem bikes, "cyclists" in general (lose the spandex it's obscene), low lights, goatees (they've been hideous since the nineties), fake nails, anyone who goes up over my dog but fails to acknowledge my children, 20 year olds that call me "hon", and Diet Coke whores (pardon my french but you know who you are).... just sayin'!

For all of my fellow granola girls out there...I get it. You don't want to be uncomfortable, or look like you're trying to hard or shopping in the tween department. Well excuses be gone. This is a totally casual and comfortable look that can take you to the grocery store or on a date night with the hubs. Just because you love nature doesn't mean you can't have style. So save your Chaco's and Patagonia shorts for your next hike and step into this.

Thoughts from afar

Just got back from a family vacation. Which let's be honest when you're traveling with kids is not an actual "vacation." We stayed in a fabulous beach house which was right on the water (so maybe  it was in Oceanside but still.) Spent two days with the kids in Disneyland, enjoyed a day in the sand at Coronado, ate heavenly pizza, strolled the beach and chowed down at the Crab Cooker in Newport. Spent an insane amount of money on everything from seashells, to churros, to Chewbaca back packs. Apparently all for nothing, when on the car ride home my eight year old says "ok that was the most boringist trip ever!" FML

I dream in color ~ look one

One outfit, two looks
This season we're all over the jewel tones. I took the cobalt blue top and emerald pants both from Urban Outfitters and created two completely different styles.
This first look is the envy of every hipster at the Coffee Garden. I paired the same pants and top with a mustard scarf (Urban Outfitters), a black fedora (Target) and some strappy gladiator sandles.

I dream in color ~ look two

To dress up this second look up I paired it with some rainbow t-straps, vintage sunburst necklace, and purple Rayban sunglasses.

Look of the Week

A lot of people have been writing to me asking "what to wear if you're not a size 2?" This. Betsy is wearing a color block pencil skirt from Anthropologie. American Rag western shirt from Macy's, and Steven fold over leather boots from Nordstrom. The necklace, glasses and belt are all vintage finds. This is a slimming look any lady can wear to church on Sunday or the office on Monday.

Just can't handle

Platform flip-flops, rhinestones on anything besides rodeo wear, too thin eye brows, hair extensions, eye lash extensions, Miss Me jeans, Pink (Victoria's Secret) sweats, fleur de lis hats, and moms who pull up to Starbucks in their Range Rover's wearing Lululemon. There I said it.

Playing with Proportion

The late great Coco Chanel once said "Fashion is architecture it's a matter of proportion." This season it's all about the mix and balance. Full skirts with crop shirts, wide leg trousers with boxy tops, and my personal fav chunky sweaters with slim pleat pants. Play around and have some fun.... in your

Orange Love

My cute grandma Clyde with her sweet southern charm, taught me two important lessons in life:
1. You don't get married to just have breakfast together (wink wink)
2. Don't ever leave the house without lipstick on.
Needless to say I haven't always headed this advice but they are diamonds of wisdom all the same.
Clyde's lipstick of choice was always ranging from apricot, to bright tangerine
Shades of orange can totally look good on anyone. It can pull together any outfit, and make you look like you somewhat give a damn.
Here's to you grandma a woman of impeccable taste.

" I love the American Southwest for starters. You may call them Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah. I call them heaven." ~ DeAngelo Vickers I couldn't agree more. I am obsessed with cacti, longhorns, turquoise, Ikat and of course the Snap front Western shirt. Dress it up over a floral maxi dress, or down with black leggings and Toms, either way it's a classic wardrobe staple.

Look of the week~ Back to school on a budget

I always say if you're skinny you can wear anything. My friend Shannon is skinny and she can wear anything. If she wore a moo moo out, they would have them back ordered at K Mart the next day. To say she is tiny would be an understatement. In preparing for this shoot I asked her what her pant size was and she reluctantly replied a size 1. ( I checked when she went to the bathroom they really were.) Who the hell wears a size 1 in the juniors department after having four kids. Shannon does. She is a self described "trend setter" which is why I asked her to model one of my favorite looks of the season.

This look is perfect for a hometown football game, a PTA meeting, or lunch with friends. Best of all no piece is over twenty dollars and all can be found at your neighborhood Target.

Sweat t-shirt 15.99
boho necklace 16.99
chino shorts 8.48
mustard belt 12.99
plaid head wrap 8.98
back to school bag 8.50

If you're one of my LDS sista's throw some gray leggings underneath and the look is equally as cute.
